December 6th
O Little Town of Bethlehem
-
While shepherds watched their flocks by night,
All seated on the ground,
The angel of the Lord came down,
And glory shone aroundFear not, said he, for mighty dread
Had seized their troubled mind,
Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankindTo you, in David's town this day
Is born, of David's line,
The Savior, who is Christ the Lord;
And this shall be the sign,The heav’nly babe you there will find
To human view displayed,
All meanly wrapped in swathing bands,
And in a manger laidThus spake the seraph and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng
Of angels praising God on high,
Who thus addressed their song:All glory be to God on high
And to the earth be peace.
Good will henceforth from heav’n to men
Begin and never cease.
Scripture
“In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock. 9 Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped tightly in cloth and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:
Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and peace on earth to people he favors!”
